August is one of those months where multiple tax deadlines converge — and if you’re not watching the calendar, it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks.
From superannuation payments to BAS lodgements and the Taxable Payments Annual Report, we’ve rounded up the key dates every Australian small business owner should know for August 2025 — plus tips to help you stay ahead.

Key Dates for August 2025:
📌 Stay organised and ahead of your deadlines.
📅 4 August 2025 📌 Fuel Tax Credit Rate Changes
The ATO’s updated fuel tax credit rates take effect. If your business claims fuel tax credits (e.g. for heavy vehicles, machinery or generators), make sure you’re applying the correct rates for fuel acquired from 4 August onwards.
📅 7 August 2025 📌 Payroll Tax – Monthly Lodgement (July wages)
If you’re registered for payroll tax in your state or territory, your return and payment for July 2025 wages are due.
📅 14 August 2025 📌 2025 PAYG Withholding Annual Report (paper lodger)
If you're lodging your PAYG withholding annual report on paper, make sure it's completed and submitted by this date.
📅 21 August 2025 📌 Monthly BAS Due (July)
If you lodge your Business Activity Statement monthly, your July 2025 BAS must be lodged and paid today.
📌 FBT Instalment Due (if applicable) Quarterly FBT instalments are also due today if you're required to make them.
📅 25 August 2025 📌 June Quarterly BAS Lodgement (Agent Extension)
If you lodge your quarterly BAS through a registered BAS or tax agent, this is the extended deadline for your June 2025 BAS. (Note: Payment was due by 28 July unless varied.)
📅 28 August 2025 📌 Super Guarantee Charge (SGC) Statement Due (if Q4 super missed)
If you didn’t pay June 2025 quarter super contributions by the 28 July deadline, you must lodge a Super Guarantee Charge statement with the ATO by today — and pay the SGC. Interest and penalties apply, and the super payment is no longer tax deductible..
📅 28 August 2025 📌 Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR) Due
If your business hires subcontractors in industries like building, cleaning, courier, IT, or security, your 2025 TPAR must be lodged today.
Real-World Tips for Staying Ahead of August Deadlines
🔁 Still chasing super payments? Automate it early.
Problem: You wait until the end of the month to pay super — but the clearing house takes 3–5 days to process it, and now you’ve missed the deadline.
Tip: Schedule super payments by early to allow processing time and avoid penalties. If you’re using a clearing house, give yourself a buffer. Get ready for Payday Super now.
📊 Cash flow tight? Prioritise tax and super obligations first.
Problem: You’re profitable on paper, but you’re short on cash to cover BAS, PAYG, and super in the same month.
Tip: Map out your payment obligations at the start of the month. Speak with your accountant early if you foresee issues — you may be able to arrange a payment plan before late fees kick in.
🧾 Paying contractors? Get your TPAR data sorted now.
Problem: You haven’t collected accurate ABNs or total payments throughout the year — now it’s August and you’re scrambling.
Tip: Review contractor payments early in the month. Make sure you have their ABNs, names, GST status, and amounts paid. It’s easier to fix issues now than in a rush at deadline time.
📅 Multiple deadlines? One missed BAS can cost you.
Problem: You’re juggling payroll tax, BAS, super, and TPAR — and something slips through the cracks.
Tip: Consolidate all deadlines into one calendar. Use colour-coding or reminders. Xero and other accounting platforms also flag upcoming obligations — use them.
🛠️ Agent lodgement extension? Don’t leave it until the last minute.
Problem: You assume you have until 25 August to lodge the quarterly BAS… but haven’t finalised your books or reconciled your accounts.
Tip: Use the agent extension to plan ahead, not delay. Get your records to your Tax agent by mid-August so they have time to check and lodge without last-minute stress.
